Dr. Amaya B. Liles: A Journey to Empowerment Through Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy
Dr. Amaya B. Liles, a New Jersey native, has forged a path in the field of pelvic floor physical therapy that is deeply informed by her personal and professional experiences. After earning her Bachelor of Science in Biology with a minor in Leadership from Columbia College, she continued her education at South College in Knoxville, TN, where she obtained her Doctorate of Physical Therapy.
Her time at a women's college significantly shaped her views on social justice, strengthening her commitment to women's rights and care for marginalized groups. This passion ultimately led Dr. Liles to pursue pelvic floor physical therapy, a field she found more aligned with her values than traditional medical school.
Dr. Liles' dedication to this specialization was further ignited by her own battle with chronic pelvic pain, which not only fueled her determination but also fostered a deep empathy for her patients’ struggles. Through participating in the P.L.A.C.E. fellowship at Columbia College and engaging with the DEIC committee during her physical therapy program, she gained vital insights into the challenges faced by various communities.
Her personal journey through chronic pain, paired with years of dedication to weightlifting, introduced her to Pilates as a vital component of her recovery. The balance it provided—both physically and mentally—reinforced her belief in the transformative power of movement and rehabilitation.
With extensive experience working with children in various capacities—ranging from an aunt to a physical therapist and a nanny—she brings a unique perspective to her practice. Her commitment to supporting children, both typical and those with special needs, highlights her passion for enhancing the well-being of all ages. Recognizing the community's need for more comprehensive support, she has dedicated herself to engaging with individuals at every life stage.
Currently, she is furthering her expertise by completing a fertility certification through Triggered Academy. Alongside this, she has aspirations of expanding her role in the birthing space, aiming to become a full-spectrum doula or possibly a midwife in the future. This journey reflects her profound dedication to nurturing families and the importance of holistic care throughout the cycles of life.
These experiences culminated in the creation of ABL Wellness, a practice dedicated to recognizing the worth of every individual and enabling them to embrace that they are ABL to live well. At ABL Wellness, Dr. Liles offers tailored pelvic floor physical therapy, infant bodywork, and Pilates, all within a concierge model that meets individuals where they are.
